Checkup

Requirements: Provider must ensure that the examination room is sanitary for the patient before they arrive.

Description: Checkup conducted to measure vitals and evaluate patient state of health.

Risk Index: 1/10

Tools: Stethoscope, gloves, blood pressure unit, thermometer.

Chemotherapy

Requirements: Reserved only for cancer treatments. This is a very dangerous procedure. Should be applied in cases where cancer that has spread significantly.

Description: This treatment is at a high risk. Make sure patient is both mentally and physically prepared to undergo this procedure.

Risk Index: 9/10

Tools: Sanitary area, gloves, mask, catheter, and chemo port.

Azelastine

Requirements: Patient must have been diagnosed with a allergy that warrants use of this treatment.

Description: A receptor-blocking medication primarily used as a nasal spray to treat allergic rhinitis and as eye drops for allergic conjunctivitis. Other uses may include asthma and skin rashes for which it is taken by mouth.

Tools: Nasal spray device and/or eye drop device.

Neurosurgery

Requirements: Reserved for patients with severe neurological conditions.

Description: Neurosurgery or neurological surgery, known in common parlance as brain surgery, is the medical specialty concerned with the surgical treatment of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain and spinal cord.

Risk Index: 10/10

Tools: Traditional and bipolar forceps, clamps, curettes, dissectors, drill bits, impactors, elevators, spreaders, hooks, probes, needles, needle holders, retractors, scissors, and types of anesthesia.

Heart Transplant

Requirements: Provider must ensure that the patient has been properly prepared for this procedure. A heart must have been received by a donor before this procedure can occur.

Description: This treatment, also called cardiac transplant, is a surgical transplant procedure performed on patients with end-stage heart failure or severe coronary artery disease when other medical or surgical treatments have failed.

Risk Index: 9/10

Tools: Cardioplegia supplies, normal saline, a sterile container for transplantation of the heart, a sterile retractor, vascular clamps, and dissection instruments.

Skin Biopsy

Requirements: Patient must be administered a lidocaine injection before the biopsy punch part of the procedure.

Description: A skin biopsy is a procedure to remove cells or skin samples from the body for laboratory examination. Types of biopsy procedures include shave, punch, and excision.

Risk Index: 3/10

Tools: Biopsy punch, #15 scalpel blade, flexible hand-held surgical blade or razor blade, small scissors for skin tags, and protuberant lesions.

Insulin Injection

Requirements: Patient must have been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Description: This is a treatment that the patient can administer to themselves. Be sure to show the patient how to complete this procedure during each insulin checkup appointment.

Tools: Syringes, pens, pumps, and/or jet injectors.

Knee Replacement

Requirements: Patient must be prepped for this procedure. Different anesthetics must have been administered before the procedure begins.

Description: Knee replacement, also known as knee arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure to replace the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee joint to relieve pain and disability.

Risk Index: 6/10

Tools: Curettes, elevators, forceps, hooks, orthopedic piers, osteotomes, rasps, and self-retaining retractors.
